Sherri's Story

“Growing up I learned that you never asked for help, crying was for sissies, not to tell because image is important, and what you could do not who you were--- was rewarded. Not finding the love and approval I craved, I decided early on that I must have been put here to sufferBy age 12 or 13 I was drinking and always seemed to get drunk faster and more frequently than my friends. Over the next several years I suffered mental, emotional, and physical violence time and time again

Today I am proud of who I am; I love myself and am therefore able to love others. I have a beautiful home and a close relationship with my family. Amethyst is a tough program, but the rewards are many.

Tina's Story

I was born and raised in California and came to Columbus almost 14 years ago. My intention was to come to Ohio and live happily ever after with my children's father. However, since we were both in full-blown alcoholism and drug addiction, that dream fell by the wayside, as did all other dreams I had throughout my life

By the time I reached Ohio, I had been using for almost 27 years. I started drinking as a way to fit in with my friends and found that drinking gave me the voice I had always wanted. Over the years I lied to myself saying that I could stop at any time, but the truth was that I could not

Today I am a responsible employee of Columbus State Community College. I am also in pursuit of my B.S. at Franklin University, work as a part-time case aide at Amethyst, and am an active member of the Alumnae. I know that because of the things I learned during my stay at Amethyst, that today I am a woman of courage and integrity, and I am proud to tell my story.

Valerie's Story

Thirteen years ago, I would never have imagined that there would be a place that would help me heal from my hurt and teach me how to cope with life's situation the same situations that, during the height of my addiction, would have triggered me to get high

Today, I am a woman that helps others see their own dreams. I am the woman that lets others know there are people and services that can help them. I will never be able to repay Amethyst for giving me back my life, my children, and my family. I am still learning from the friendships I developed at Amethyst. The women I met there are my sisters. We have shared stories, and we know that it is through Amethyst that we will grow and be strong. When most people have a series of bad life experiences, they say that they are happy to have their old life back. Well, I don't want my old life back. Amethyst gave me a new life, one that I never thought I could have.
