Amethyst makes a difference. So can you.

Since 1984, Amethyst has emerged as one of Ohio's premier providers of treatments designed to help women and families struggling with addictions and homelessness. Our services have been identified nationally as model programs, and Amethyst continues to be an innovative and sought-after recovery option because of the unique services we offer, including:

Services to Children and Families: At Amethyst, we believe in working to heal the entire family in order to break the cycle of addiction. Parenting classes, family counseling, emergency babysitting, after-school tutoring, and summer camp are a few programs we offer to facilitate the mending of families and the development of mothers and their children.

Trauma Services for Abused Women: Amethyst offers Trauma Services for women who suffer from physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. About 95% of women seeking support from Amethyst suffer from trauma. In 2008, Amethyst worked with three Ohio Researchers and Geshe Kalsang Damdul, a Tibetain monk, to research the impact meditation had on the treatment outcome of women suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing: Amethyst believes that a safe living environment is essential for a woman's recovery. We operate the only recovery-focused transitional housing program for women in Columbus, providing not only a roof, but also the furnishings that make a house a home. This program allows women to live in a community of recovery with continuous staff support.

Supported Employment Pilot Program: Amethyst is the first alcohol and other drug treatment agency to pilot this program in Ohio. Currently, supported employment programs have only been implemented in mental health organizations. Our program, initially developed at Case Western University, was designed to help people identify, acquire, and maintain competitive employment opportunities in their communities. Through advocacy work, the program also helps reduce the stigma associated with addiction and homelessness, raises awareness, and removes employment barriers such as immediate disqualification of candidates due to criminal history.

The caliber of the services we offer and the difference they make in restoring the lives of the women and offering hope to children are some of the reasons why so many individuals, businesses, and organizations are interested in supporting Amethyst. Whether you are an individual or a corporation, whether you would like to contribute money, goods, or your time and effort, we would love to count you among our supporters.
