Programs & Services
Our Programs & ServicesAmethyst provides gender-specific alcohol and drug treatment combined with supportive housing for homeless women. At Amethyst, our program model focuses on addiction and emphasizes the roles that poverty and trauma play in perpetuating drug and alcohol use in women. Our nationally recognized programs include:
A Rapid Stabilization Program (RSVP)RSVP is one of the only transitional housing programs in Columbus, Ohio. This program is for women and families living in shelters or who are otherwise homeless and in need of a safe, drug-free environment where they begin the recovery from addiction. The program also services women who have relapsed or who at risk of relapse. General program admission criteria:

These sober communities provide safe places for women and children to surround themselves by other families focused on sobriety and healthy relationships. Resident managers also live on-site to offer around-the-clock support. From the curtains to the couches, our apartments are fully furnished, and residents’ material needs are supported so families can concentrate on recovering instead of merely surviving. S.T.A.R Outpatient ProgramThe Amethyst Safety, Treatment and Recovery (S.T.A.R) Program is an outpatient addiction recovery program for women from all walks of life. No matter a woman’s background, her financial history, or her readiness for a treatment program, STAR can help. Amethyst designed STAR services using the same gender-specific treatment model employed in our successful permanent supportive housing program. Our counselors walk clients through their concerns and guide them in making treatment choices that will positively impact their life, health, and wellness. STAR services include:

These experiences are known as trauma, and they drastically increase the likelihood that a woman will abuse alcohol and/or other drugs herself. In fact, addicted women are more likely to have histories of trauma and have encountered abuse more often, and for longer periods of time, than drug-free women. Amethyst understands that, if left untreated, traumatic experiences serve as triggers for relapse in women. We provide a trauma-informed environment, and clinicians trained in trauma-specific services are available to work with women in our housing and outpatient programs who need additional support. Integrated Tobacco ProgramPeople recovering from addiction are more likely to die from their tobacco dependence than they are from their drug of choice. Tobacco use makes ANY existing medical condition worse. That’s why Amethyst is not only a tobacco free workplace; we also provide tobacco cessation as a part of our integrated treatment program. Research shows that people who quit smoking while in treatment stay sober longer than those who do not. Abstinence from tobacco, just like abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, is not easy. But through Amethyst’s integrated treatment program, clients don’t have to go it alone. Amethyst provides intensive support to help women successfully quit. SummerQuestAddiction impacts everyone who comes into contact with the addict, and children are affected in especially profound ways. SummerQuest is Amethyst’s intensive intervention day camp for children aged 6-14 who have mothers involved in Amethyst’s long-term addiction recovery program. SummerQuest runs from June through August each summer and is specially designed to meet the unique needs of children of parents with addictions. Through individual counseling, animal-assisted therapy, social competency development, prevention education, and good old-fashioned camp fun, the camp fosters healing and emotional growth and plays a critical role in each child’s development and success.
