Each year more than one million women are physically, sexually, and emotionally abused. These experiences are known as trauma, and they drastically increase the likelihood that a woman will abuse alcohol and/or other drugs herself. In fact, addicted women are more likely to have histories of trauma and have encountered abuse more often, and for longer periods of time, than drug-free women.

Amethyst understands that, if left untreated, traumatic experiences serve as triggers for relapse in women. We provide a trauma-informed environment, and clinicians trained in trauma-specific services are available to work with women in our housing and outpatient programs who need additional support.
